Former NFL great quarterback Michael Vick is loving him some Dwayne Haskins.
Vick told 106.7 last week that Haskins is in a perfect spot to gain as much experience as possible with veterans Case Keenum and Colt McCoy around him.
“That’s very fortunate for Dwayne to be in that position,” Vick said on 106.7 The Fan.
“You get to soak up everything, you get to gain the whole experience without having to be under pressure,” Vick said. “That makes it extremely easy when you step out there for the first time.”
While growing off the field is important the transition from being a one-year starter at Ohio State University to the NFL is a big one, but Vick added the experienced QBs around him will help Haskins immensely.
“It’s not difficult at all when you have an opportunity to sit behind guys like Case Keenum, who has a ton of experience and knows how to play the game, and Colt McCoy,” Vick said. “It’s not like he’s been rushed out there to play. He has some time to develop. That’s the most important thing for him right now.”
While acknowledging he wants to play, Haskins has said he would be OK with waiting for his chance.
“I don’t really worry about starting Week 1,” Haskins said earlier this offseason. “I just want to be ready to play Week 1, whether that’s this year or next year or whenever my time comes for me to play.”
“I just want to make sure that when I do play, I don’t want to look back,” he added.
Vick added he saw Redskins head coach Jay Gruden at a golf tournament a few weeks ago and asked about Haskins development.
“He just looked at me and said, ‘It’s gonna take some time,'” Vick said
