Wizards center Dwight Howard has opted into his 2019-20 player option with the team, according to Zach Lowe of ESPN.
Howard signed a two-year, $10.9 million contract with the Wizards last summer. Washington was hoping a Big Three of Howard, John Wall and Bradley Beal would be lethal together. However, Howard and Wall were injured pretty much all season.
In nine games, Howard averaged 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds while shooting 62.3 percent from the field. The Wizards missed the playoffs this season. Howard should be ready for training camp, while it’s unknown if Wall is going to play at all in 2019-20. The point guard is recovering from heel and Achilles surgery.
Howard has played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets and Wizards since his prime days with the Magic ended.
