REDSKINS ROOK DWAYNE HASKINS: A QUARTERBACK TO GROW WITH!

By Sally Fahey

Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins has already turned heads in rookie mini-camp.

And coach Jay Gruden is excited to have a quarterback that he can grow with.

Gruden has said that Haskins will get a chance to compete for the starting job with Colt McCoy and Case Keenum but won’t guarantee that he will get the job.

One thing he can guarantee though is that the team is going to build an offense that fits his strengths, and this is going to be a long term relationship.

“But it is exciting to have a quarterback here that you’re gonna have for at least five years that you know you can grow with,” Gruden said, via Albert Breer of SI.com. “You can build your offense around his skill set. … It’s exciting, for sure.”

Since Gruden has taken over as the coach of the Redskins, there has never really been the view. It always seemed like a matter of time before Kirk Cousins moved on and with Alex Smith, they knew he was only the option for a few years before they were going to have to get younger. The hope is that this could be a career relationship between Haskins and the Redskins.
