WIZ FREE AGENT PORTIS WILL HAVE LOTS OF OTHER SUITORS!

The rats are always the first to flee a sinking ship.

Or in this case, free agents are fleeing the sinking Wizards.

Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington is reporting that  the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic and New York Knicks will all be vying to sign Bobby Portis this summer.

“Portis is expected to draw interest from the Lakers, Clippers, Jazz, Bucks, Magic and Knicks among others, NBC Sports Washington has learned,” writes Hughes. “Despite restricted free agency, Portis has a few things working for him. For one, there are a lot of teams with cap room. Spending won’t reach 2016 levels, when the new CBA spiked the salary cap, but there will a lot of money to go around.”

Of course, Portis was previously shipped from the Chicago Bulls to the Wizards as a result of a mid-season trade during the 2018-19 campaign. Prior to such a deal, the 24-year-old Portis had spent his entire NBA playing career in the “Windy City” as a member of the once heralded Bulls. The Bulls originally selected the veteran power forward with the No. 22 overall pick in the first round of the 2015 NBA Draft out of Arkansas.

The 32-50 Wizards finished the 2018-19 regular season in 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
