WIZ WIN BUT LOSE SUPER-ROOK HACHIMURA TO A GROIN

By Sally Fahey

The Wizards took care of business last night, winning at Detroit 133-119.

However, rookie Rui Hachimura suffered a groin injury, which caused him to leave the game early. He did not return.

Hachimura is fourth among rookie in scoring at 14.2 points per game, behind only Ja Morant, Eric Paschall and Kendrick Nunn and ahead of players that he went behind in the draft such as R.J. Barrett, De’Andre Hunter, Coby White and Darius Garland.

Hachimura also tops the NBA among rookie in rebounding at 6.0 rebounds per game, which is ahead of his former Gonzaga teammate Brandon Clarke (5.9) and Barrett (5.3).

Among the top five rookies in field goal attempts, Hachimura is fourth with 12.5 attempts per contest. However, among those players, he is second only to Paschall in field goal percentage with an impressive 47.8 percent from the field. That percentage is buoyed by an impressive 73.1 percent clip at the rim.

Again, hopefully this injury is not a serious one for the Japan-born Hachimura, and the Wizards are sure to be careful with their big-time rookie.
