Virginia is on the verge of legalizing sports betting, a move that could make the state far more appealing to Redskins owner Dan Snyder for a stadium deal.
While the bill has already passed, it’s still awaiting approval from Governor Ralph Northam, who’s expected to sign it into law, 106.7 The Fan columnist Rick Snider said yesterday..
“The governor still has to sign it, but he’s expected to,” Snider said. “They basically said, okay, no (Virginia) college sports, and then everything else is gonna come online, hopefully, by NFL opening day.”
“This is a radical thing for Virginia,” he said. “I mean, Virginia has always been a very conservative state, and yet they’ve approved casinos. Casinos in the southern part of the state where it’s the heavy Bible belt, not the northern part. There isn’t one in Alexandria coming.”
