Fans will be disallowed at WFT games for the last two home games of the 2020 season.
“After careful consideration and close coordination with Prince George’s County health officials, the Washington Football Team has made the difficult decision to play the remainder of our 2020 games without fans in attendance,” the team said in a statement.
“We will miss the unbridled passion of our fanbase at FedExField as we take on the Seattle Seahawks on December 20th and the Carolina Panthers on December 27th, but we must remain diligent in protecting our staff, players, fans, and the community as the region continues its fight against COVID-19.”
Washington had opened its gates to close family members to watch games and then allowed a few thousand fans in at the beginning of November, but they’ve rolled back those decisions for two late-December games against the Panthers and Seahawks.
The number of fans allowed at games across the NFL varies. Most teams do not permit fans to attend games, while teams like the Dolphins, Buccaneers, Bengals, Browns and Jaguars remain open to a limited percentage of spectators.
The Washington Football Team is set to continue their playoff push against the 49ers in Week 14, who have had to play in Arizona due to new health restrictions in Santa Clara County.
