Thirty-seven-year-old Jon Lester is coming to the Nats after agreeing on a one-year deal.
Lester joins a Washington team looking to rebound from a disappointing 26-34 season that came on the heels of the franchise’s first World Series championship in 2019. Joining Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg and Patrick Corbin in the Nats’ starting rotation, Lester will also be seeking a bounce-back of his own.
The 2020 campaign was the worst season of Lester’s 15-year career as he posted a career-high 5.16 ERA in 61 innings. The standard, of course, is high for Lester, a five-time All-Star and three-time World Series champion with a career 3.60 ERA across his stints with the Boston Red Sox, Oakland Athletics and Cubs.
