The Nats placed Stephen Strasburg on the 10-day injured list due to right shoulder inflammation, which is retroactive to Thursday, which caused him to be scratched from yesterday’s start against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Pablo Espinal was recalled from the alternate site to make the spot start in place of Strasburg.
Strasburg struggled in his previous start last Tuesday, allowing seven earned runs and eight hits along with five walks in four-plus innings in a 14-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
He barely touched 90 mph on the radar gun, too, which raised some alarms. He was also seen in the tunnel of the team’s dugout rubbing his shoulder, which Strasburg and manager Dave Martinez took issue with following the game.
“Quite honestly, that shot shouldn’t have been shown,” Martinez said, per ESPN. “So I’m a little perturbed about that. That camera is not supposed to be down in that tunnel.”
