The Nats have placed pitcher Max Scherzer on the 10-day injured list with groin inflammation retroactive to June 12.
Scherzer left Friday’s start against the San Francisco Giants after only 12 pitches. He was seen stretching his lower half after his final pitch when Nationals manager Dave Martinez and team trainer Paul Lessard came out to the mound to check on him. The three-time Cy Young winner threw one practice pitch before wincing and walking off the mound.
After Friday’s game, Scherzer told reporters he felt his groin “tweak.” An MRI taken the same day showed inflammation but no muscle strain.
In 13 starts this season, Scherzer has a 2.21 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 77 1/3 innings.
