Nats ace Max Scherzer is posting one of the best seasons of his dominant career. With a 2.21 ERA and .815 WHIP in his first 13 starts, Max Scherzer is sure to be the top arm in MLB trade deadline rumors if the Nats choose to sell.
Though Scherzer could be dealt at the 2021 deadline to an ace-needy team like the Boston Red Sox (+750), the team he most likely begins 2022 on is the Nationals — regardless of whether they flip him this summer.
The Nationals have let franchise icons like Anthony Rendon and Bryce Harper walk for big paydays, but those departures have left their books clean. Washington has just two players guaranteed over $20 million next season and can bring back their veteran ace at a high price point.
