SAM CASSELL REPORTEDLY INTERVIEWED BY THE WIZ FOR HEAD COACH

By Jerry Wein

The Wizards reportedly interviewed Sixers assistant Sam Cassell yesterday, according to The Athletic’s Fred Katz.

Cassell spent five seasons from 2009-2014 as a Wizards assistant during the Flip Saunders and Randy Wittman eras. He then joined Doc Rivers’ staff with the LA Clippers before going with him to Philly when Daryl Morey hired Rivers to replace Brett Brown.

Cassell was influential in helping John Wall become one of the premier point guards in the NBA.

Whether he makes that leap by coming back to the nation’s capital remains to be seen. The Wizards have already interviewed Celtics assistant Scott Morrison and requested to interview Mavericks assistant Jamahl Mosley. As Marc Stein reported, general manager Tommy Sheppard is concentrating his efforts on current assistants.
