NATS PATRICK CORBIN TOSSED A NIFTY 6 INNINGS AT PADS TO END 2021’S FIRST HALF

By Mark Gallagher

Patrick Corbin allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts over six innings in the Nats 15-5 win over the Padres last night.

Corbin had all the run support in this one after the Nationals scored seven runs in the first two innings.

He went on to hold the Padres to just two runs over six innings. Corbin loaded the bases in the first inning with a single and two walks allowed, but escaped the jam with a groundout by Eric Hosmer. One run would score in the fifth inning on a base hit by Manny Machado after Tommy Pham doubled to lead off the frame. Hosmer started the sixth inning with a homer for the second run against Corbin.

The 31-year-old left-hander tossed 66-of-106 pitches for strikes and induced nine whiffs to strike out three batters. He’ll take a 5.40 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 73 strikeouts over 93 1/3 innings into the All-Star break.
