Nicklas Backstrom’s hip injury affected his play into last season’s playoffs.
“I think it caught up with him at the end,” general manager Brian MacLellan said at the end of the 2021 season. “It got worse and he struggled to be at 100 percent. … He got worn down at the end of the year.”
Backstrom scored 15 goals and 38 assists in 55 games last season, producing his best points per 60 minutes rate, 3.1, since 2016-17. In the playoffs, however, he was limited to only one assist in five games as the injury clearly impacted his play.
#Caps center Nicklas Backstrom will miss the start of the 2021 Training Camp due to ongoing rehabilitation on his hip. Backstrom is currently listed as week-to-week.
