Trey Mancini “went deep” in Baltimore’s 3-0 win over the Rays on Thursday, and by “went deep” I mean he hit a pop fly into right field that turned into a home run.
The play sparks such a little-league joy:
There’s the doink off of Rays right fielder Josh Lowe’s head, cartoonish in the best way. The ball then caroms all the way from right-center to the right-field foul line, a long run for Rays outfielder Roman Quinn, while Lowe is indisposed on the turf. Mancini’s slow chug home might be best of all — a man unready for such a sprint making the best of his opportunity.
It was a big moment, too — the Orioles are the surprise of the league at 50-49 and just three games out of a wild card spot.
