Georgetown fired Patrick Ewing yesterday, an unsurprising end to a disappointing coaching tenure for the Hoyas legend.
The job profile is fascinating: top-tier tradition with a lot of work to do.
The Athletic’s Brian Hamilton has a list of candidates here, including none other than Rick Pitino, who’s been at Iona for the last three years.
On paper, fantastic hire. Pitino’s coaching prowess has never been the problem — Iona is 62-21 in his three seasons and is on the doorstep of another NCAA Tournament berth.
The public relations of it, however, would be a different story. Something to monitor.
