COMMANDERS WR ANTONIO GIBSON HAS BEEN AN OTA STANDOUT

By Lew Gould

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said RB Antonio Gibson “has really shown his pass-catching abilities” in OTAs.

“Especially in space, he’s a load,” Rivera said during today’s press conference.

It makes one wonder why the Commanders haven’t made a more concerted effort to deploy Gibson — a former receiver — as a pass-catching weapon over his three seasons in Washington.

Last season, Gibson had a career high 46 catches for 453 yards and two touchdowns with J.D. McKissic sideline for much of the season.

He was eighth among all running backs in yards per route run.

Rivera said in mid-May that the team would like to get Gibson more touches in offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy’s scheme. While Brian Robinson should remain the Commanders’ early-down grinder, Gibson, 24, should at least get a chance to show off his pass-catching chops in 2023.
