COMMANDERS ANTONIO GIBSON SAYS HE’LL BE A 3RD-DOWN BACK!

By Mark Donovan

Commanders RB Antonio Gibson said he expects to play a “third-down back” role in offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy’s offense.

Gibson called it the J.D. McKissic role and said he expects to be on the field at the end of both halves.

As a former receiver, it makes sense for Gibson to get more work in obvious passing situations.

With McKissic suffering a season-ending injury in Week 8 last year, Gibson took on more of that role to close out the season.

He ultimately turned in career-highs in targets, receptions, and receiving yards.
